The ride is an opportunity to spend the whole day riding through some of the most picturesque parts of the Hawkesbury district. Although the route includes some main roads and challenging climbs it is well within the capacity of regular riders on geared bikes. Riders will need to be self-sufficient and prepared for up to six hours in the saddle plus rest stops. There is no “sag wagon” to offer support. The ride is not suitable for children.

The route takes us out of Windsor on Windsor Rd to the east then via Old Stock Route Rd and around Pitt Town Bottoms. We re-join Wisemans Ferry Rd and proceed to our morning tea stop at Maroota Public School. The ride coincides with the “Maroota Muster” in the school grounds were a range of displays, activities and refreshments are planned.

From the school we head towards Wisemans Ferry on Old Northern Rd. We turn off to Laughtondale Gully Rd on the right after 4 km. At Wisemans Ferry last year we enjoyed a picnic lunch at the kiosk at the Northern most (Spencer/ Gosford) ferry crossing. Non-riding family and friends are welcome to join us for lunch.

After lunch we head upstream past the Webbs Creek Ferry on River Rd towards Lower Portland. Follow River Rd to the left (up the hill) towards Sackville. The road rises and falls gently through stunning countryside then climbs steadily to the ridge top after you pass Dargle’s Farm and then down to Sackville Ferry. We cross over the river and turn left onto Tizzana Rd and past the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, which is claimed to be the oldest continuously operating church in Australia.

The final section along Wilberforce Rd takes us back  across the Hawkesbury river to Windsor where all riders are welcome to join us for a cuppa and some cake courtesy of Windsor Cyclists.
