Riding in the Hawkesbury

We ride mainly on sealed roads but there are quite a few very scenic gravel roads in the area worth exploring. The traffic is relatively quiet compared to the Sydney suburbs and the pace far less frenetic. The Hawkesbury area provides plenty of variety from gentle undulations to some reasonable climbs.

There's always plenty of scenery to take in and lots of history to explore. One of my favourite rides is up to Kurrajong via Richmond and Grose Vale Road and back along Comleroy and East Kurrajong Roads to Windsor. You can take in plenty of places of interest along the way, including the old Hawkesbury Agricultural College built in the late 1800s and now part of the University of Western Sydney; several old cemeteries with graves dating back to the 1820s; and Sir Phillip Charley's old residence, 'Belmont', and now St John of God Hospital. You can read more about the area we love to ride in using the link in the menu.
